Crossword Genius

Side dish at fair, served without topping of fruits (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

raita

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'side dish' is the definition.
'raita' can be an answer for 'dish' (I've seen this before). I am not certain of the 'side' bit.

I cannot understand how the remainder of the clue works.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for raita that I've seen before include "side order" , "Curry cooler" , "Cucumber and mint Indian dip" , "fare from India" , "accompaniment to curry" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
