Silly person to leave position, yielding power (5)
I believe the answer is:
goose
'silly person' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'leave position yielding power' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'leave' could be 'go' (to go is to depart or leave) and 'go' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ose' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'to' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for goose that I've seen before include "Gander's mate" , "Silly person" , "Waterbird; fool" , "Migratory aquatic bird" , "Supposedly foolish bird" .)
