I believe the answer is:

'singled out' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I don't understand how one could define the other.
'cream done badly' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'cream' could be 'pick' (both can mean the best of a group) and 'pick' is located in the answer.
an anagram of 'done' is 'edon' which is within the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
