I believe the answer is:

'chant' becomes 'mantra' (I've seen this before).
'quietly' becomes 'p' (musical symbol).
'close to' says to take the final letters (the close/ending of).
The last letter of 'odysseus' is 's'.
'mantra'+'p'+'s'='MANTRAPS'
