Sketch artist turned a profit (6)
I believe the answer is:
reward
'a profit' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'sketch artist turned' is the wordplay.
'sketch' becomes 'draw' (to sketch is to draw).
'artist' becomes 'er' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'turned' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'draw'+'er'='drawer'
'drawer' written backwards gives 'REWARD'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for reward that I've seen before include "It's given to reinforce good behaviour" , "Deserts" , "Earned prize" , "Profit, return" , "Gift given to show appreciation of a good deed" .)
