Crossword Genius

Small insect beginning to tire (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

midget

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tire' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.

'small insect beginning to' is the wordplay.
'small insect' becomes 'midge' (I've seen this before).
'beginning' says to take the initial letters.
The first letter of 'to' is 't'.
'midge'+'t'='MIDGET'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for midget that I've seen before include "Little person" , "Tiny" , "Manikin" , "Happy for one" , "Very small" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
