millimetre

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'small measure' is the definition.
(small measurement)

'to cover new term' is the wordplay.
'to' becomes 'millie' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'cover' indicates putting letters inside.
'new' indicates anagramming the letters.
'term' anagrammed gives 'metr'.
'millie' enclosing 'metr' is 'MILLIMETRE'.

'girl's taken' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

I've seen this clue in The Times.
