I believe the answer is:

mucus

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'snail's trail' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

'a lot of ooze stripped bush?' is the wordplay.
'a lot of' means to remove the last letter (most of the word but not all of it).
'ooze' becomes 'muck' (synonyms).
'stripped bush?' becomes 'us' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'muck' with its final letter removed is 'muc'.
'muc'+'us'='MUCUS'

(Other definitions for mucus that I've seen before include "Protective secretion found in the gut, nose, throat and lungs" , "Phlegm" , "Thick, slimy stuff" , "Slimy secretion of nose" , "Slimy secreted bodily fluid" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
