Soak up bad gin, looking depressed (6)
I believe the answer is:
moping
'depressed' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'soak up bad gin looking' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'gin' is 'ing' which is located in the answer.
'soak up' could be 'mop' (mopping is a kind of soaking up) and 'mop' is located in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for moping that I've seen before include "brooding" , "Sulking or mooning about" , "Wandering about in low spirits" , "Moving about listlessly" , "Being dejected and apathetic" .)
