I believe the answer is:

brigadier

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'soldier' is the definition.

'british army primarily carrying kit one passing out?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'british' could be 'br' (abbreviation for British) and 'br' is located in the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'in' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for brigadier that I've seen before include "High-ranking army officer" , "Army rank" , "Air bridge over to the military officer" , "Rank above colonel" , "Officer in charge of army unit, part of division" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
