Crossword Genius

Some feet are never lifted and put on a pedestal (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

venerate

'put on a pedestal' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'some feet are never lifted' is the wordplay.
'some' indicates the answer is hidden within the clue (some parts of the word are used).
'lifted' shows that the letters should be reversed in order (going up in down clue).
'etarenev' is hidden in the letters of 'feet are never'.
'etarenev' written backwards gives 'VENERATE'.

'and' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for venerate that I've seen before include "Revere highly" , "Regard (something) with great respect" , "Treat with respect" , "Regard with deep respect or worship" , "Think a great deal of" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
