Crossword Genius

Some vessel potter turned without lid (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

topless

'without lid' is the definition.
('lid' can be 'top' (eg a bottle top) so maybe 'without lid' can be ''topless')

'some vessel potter turned' is the wordplay.
'some' says the answer is hidden in the clue (some of the parts of the word are used).
'turned' says the letters should be written backwards.
'sselpot' is hidden within 'vessel potter'.
'sselpot' written backwards gives 'TOPLESS'.

(Other definitions for topless that I've seen before include "Half-naked" , "Naked above the waist" , "Bare-breasted" , "As a Page Three girl?" , "Bare from the waist up" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
