Somehow at home, and otherwise? (2,1,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

in a way

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'somehow' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'home and otherwise?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'home' could be 'in' ('he's home' can mean 'he's in') and 'in' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'away' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'at' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for in a way that I've seen before include "as one might see it" , "somehow" , "Sort of, in some respects" , "Kind of" , "In some respects, to a limited extent" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
