Somewhere in Africa, Anglican causes ill-will (6)

I believe the answer is:
malice
'ill-will' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'somewhere in africa anglican' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'anglican' could be 'ce' (Church of England) and 'ce' is located in the answer.
'in africa' could be 'mali' ('Mali' is part of 'africa') and 'mali' is found in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'causes' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for malice that I've seen before include "Spite, venom" , "Spite and rancour" , "Spite or spleen, perhaps aforethought" , "Hate" , "Spite - desire to hurt" .)
