Crossword Genius

Song of fire and ice, both essentially over (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

flamenco

'song' is the definition.
(flamenco is a type of music)

'fire and ice both essentially over' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'fire' could be 'flame' (synonyms) and 'flame' is found within the answer.
'and' could be 'n' (common abbreviation for 'and') and 'n' is present in the answer.
'over' could be 'o' (cricket abbreviation) and 'o' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'c' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'of' is the link.

(Other definitions for flamenco that I've seen before include "Spanish 20" , "Spanish gypsy music" , "Dramatic Andalusian kind of song and dance" , "Spanish music and dance" , "Spanish musical style" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
