Source of information that bears fruit (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

grapevine

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'source of information' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'bears fruit' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'fruit' could be 'grape' (grape is a kind of fruit) and 'grape' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'vine' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'that' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for grapevine that I've seen before include "Supposed medium for spreading news" , "where fruit is grown" , "Bush telegraph" , "origin of wine?" , "Fruit-bearing plant - rumour mill" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
