South American city body almost accepting investment from American (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

caracas

'south american city' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'body almost accepting investment from american' is the wordplay.
'body' becomes 'carcass' (carcass is a kind of body).
'almost' means to remove the last letter (most of the word but not all of it).
'accepting' indicates putting letters inside.
'investment from american' becomes 'a' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'carcass' with its last letter taken away is 'carcas'.
'carcas' going around 'a' is 'CARACAS'.

(Other definitions for caracas that I've seen before include "Capital city" , "Capital of Venezuela" , "South American capital" , "South American city" , "Venezuelan capital" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
