Crossword Genius

Speculators loudly vote for gold (5-3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bulls-eye

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'gold' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'speculators loudly vote' is the wordplay.
'speculators' becomes 'bulls' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'loudly' shows a homophone (sound like) (when spoken - not silently).
'vote' becomes 'aye' (I've seen this in another clue).
'aye' is a homophone of 'eye'.
'bulls'+'eye'='BULLS-EYE'

'for' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bulls-eye that I've seen before include "Boiled sweet" , "Window - sweet" , "Lantern - sweet - target centre" , "Accurate shot" , "Centre of darts board" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
