Spirited supporter taking one for a ride (5)
I believe the answer is:
steed
'one for a ride' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'spirited supporter' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'supporter' could be 'tee' (a golf tee acts as a support) and 'tee' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'taking' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for steed that I've seen before include "Stallion" , "Powerful horse" , "Spirited horse" , "Literary term for horse" , "Warhorse" .)
