Spots cat in A&E, playing: it's out of this world! (5,7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

space station

'it's out of this world' is the definition.
(outside Earth's atmosphere)

'spots cat in ae playing' is the wordplay.
'playing' indicates an anagram.
'spots'+'cat'+'in'+'ae'='spotscatinae'
'spotscatinae' with letters rearranged gives 'SPACE STATION'.

(Other definitions for space station that I've seen before include "Manned satellite" , "base far away" , "Orbiting observatory" , "Soyuz made viable" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
