Staff going round gallery, showing what Turner did? (7)
I believe the answer is:
rotated
'turner did?' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'staff going round gallery' is the wordplay.
'staff' becomes 'rod' (both can mean a pole or stick).
'going round' is an insertion indicator (some letters go around others).
'gallery' becomes 'tate' (Tate Modern, Tate Britain etc).
'rod' enclosing 'tate' is 'ROTATED'.
'showing what' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for rotated that I've seen before include "Turned around axis or central point" , "took part in revolution" , "Turned in a circle around an axis" , "Went round" , "Turned round" .)
