Standard means for churning cheese (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

parmesan

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'cheese' is the definition.
(I know that Parmesan is a type of cheese)

'standard means for churning' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'standard' could be 'par' (standard of play in golf) and 'par' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'means' is 'mesan' which is within the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for parmesan that I've seen before include "Italian cheese for spearman" , "that grates" , "Hard dry Italian cheese" , "Pam earns this cheese" , "Italian cheese, often grated" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
