Crossword Genius

Standard sort of community (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

parish

'community' is the definition.
(I know that parish is a type of community)

'standard sort of' is the wordplay.
'standard' becomes 'par' (standard of play in golf).
'sort of' becomes 'ish' (eg newish means sort of new).
'par'+'ish'='PARISH'

(Other definitions for parish that I've seen before include "Local church community" , "Part of diocese" , "Kind of 2 down - has rip (anag)" , "District with own church and clergyman" , "Ecclesiastical area" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
