sticking plaster

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'dressing' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'standing quietly with hesitation holding final' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'quietly' could be 'p' (p for piano and quiet) and 'p' is found in the answer.
'hesitation' could be 'er' (sound made while hesitating - um, er) and 'er' is found within the answer.
'final' could be 'last' (synonyms) and 'last' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'sticking' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for sticking plaster that I've seen before include "that's for a minor injury" , "treatment for injury" , "medical cover" , "dressing" .)
