Crossword Genius

Stars also wandered, Alpha moving (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

andromeda

'stars' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'also wandered alpha moving' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'also' could be 'and' (I've seen this before) and 'and' is present in the answer.
'alpha' could be 'a' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.) and 'a' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for andromeda that I've seen before include "woman rescued by Perseus" , "Large northern constellation between Perseus and Pegasus" , "Constellation; daughter of Cassiopeia" , "princess barely chained to rock" , "Galaxy nearest ours" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
