Crossword Genius

State gets weary of such skits (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

satires

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'such skits' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'state gets weary' is the wordplay.
'state' becomes 'SA' (South Australia).
'gets weary' becomes 'tires' (I've seen this in another clue).
'sa'+'tires'='SATIRES'

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for satires that I've seen before include "A sister (anag.)" , "travesties?" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
