Crossword Genius

Steal a free ride (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lift

This clue is a double definition.

'steal' is the first definition.
(I know that lift is a more specific form of the action steal)

'a free ride' is the second definition.
(as in a lift in someone's car)

(Other definitions for lift that I've seen before include "Raise - shot in the arm" , "Raise - hoist" , "It's an elevator in USA" , "Raise; elevator" , "Means of access to different floors" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph, The Globe and Mail and The Guardian.
