Crossword Genius

Stealing lamp, getting identified (5,8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

light fingered

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'identified' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives. Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'stealing lamp' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'lamp' could be 'light' (I've seen this before) and 'light' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'fingered' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'getting' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for light fingered that I've seen before include "prone to kleptomania" , "as one on 9 [PIANO] ? - with 21d" , "Dipper is so" , "not heavy-handed?" , "Likely to steal" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
