Stick-in-the-mud vaguely remembered losing a grand (4)
I believe the answer is:
fogy
'stick-in-the-mud' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'vaguely remembered losing a grand' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'grand' could be 'g' (G is short for grand as in a thousand) and 'g' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'foy' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fogy that I've seen before include "old fellow" , "old buffer" , "old square" , "Old-fashioned person" , "Old-fashioned type" .)
