Crossword Genius

Stick with James (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bond

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This might be a double definition.

'stick' is the first definition.
(I know that stick can be written as bond)

'james' is the second definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'with' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bond that I've seen before include "Fictional agent; link" , "Valuable asset" , "Tie - debenture" , "Fastening; secret agent" , "Affiliation" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
