Stone workers present during roll call? (6)
I believe the answer is:
menhir
'stone' is the definition.
(large stone erected by prehistoric peoples)
'workers present during roll call?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'workers' could be 'men' (man is a kind of worker) and 'men' is found within the answer.
'call?' could be 'hi' and 'hi' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
(Other definitions for menhir that I've seen before include "Ancient upright stone" , "5 Down" , "Standing stone" .)
