Crossword Genius

Stony and with nothing coming in, save? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hoard

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'save?' is the definition.
(hoarding is a kind of saving)

'stony and with nothing coming' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'nothing' could be 'o' (looks like zero - 0) and 'o' is found within the answer.
'stony' could be 'hard' ('hard' can be similar in meaning to 'stony') and 'hard' is located in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'in' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for hoard that I've seen before include "Store of treasure" , "Squirrel away" , "Accumulate" , "Accumulated store" , "Accumulation" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
