Stooped, but no convict fell (9)
I believe the answer is:
descended
This might be a double definition.
'stooped' is the first definition.
('descend' can be a synonym of 'stoop')
'no convict fell' is the second definition.
'descended' can be an answer for 'fell' (I've seen this in another clue). I'm unsure of the 'no convict' bit.
'but' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for descended that I've seen before include "Came down" , "went downhill?" .)
