Stripped down to the basic figure (5)
I believe the answer is:
bared
'stripped' is the definition.
('bare' can be a synonym of 'strip')
'down to the basic figure' is the wordplay.
'down' becomes 'd'.
'to' means one lot of letters go next to another (I've seen this in other clues).
'the basic figure' becomes 'bare' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'd' put after 'bare' is 'BARED'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bared that I've seen before include "Uncovered" , "Stripped" .)
