Strips back process, putting it into standby (5,4)
I believe the answer is:
sleep mode
'standby' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I cannot tell whether this works.
'strips back process putting it' is the wordplay.
'strips' becomes 'peels' (peeling is a kind of stripping).
'back' is a reversal indicator.
'process putting' becomes 'mod' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'it' becomes 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT').
'peels' reversed gives 'sleep'.
'sleep'+'mod'+'e'='SLEEP MODE'
'into' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for sleep mode that I've seen is " Computer's quiescent state".)
