Striptease into underwear for workers? (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

peasants

'for workers?' is the definition.
(peasant is a kind of worker)

'striptease into underwear' is the wordplay.
'striptease' becomes 'eas' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'into' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'underwear' becomes 'pants' (underpants).
'eas' inserted inside 'pants' is 'PEASANTS'.

(Other definitions for peasants that I've seen before include "bumpkins" , "uncultured people" , "Anapests about farm labourers" , "Farm labourers, now archaic" , "Rustics" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
