Struggle repeatedly parking large convertible (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

grapple

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'struggle' is the definition.
(I know that grapple is a type of struggle)

'repeatedly parking large convertible' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'parking' could be 'p' (abbreviation on road signs) and 'p' is found in the answer.
'large' could be 'l' (eg in clothes sizes) and 'l' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'grape' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for grapple that I've seen before include "Hooking instrument" , "Lay hold of" , "Attempt to get hold of, or seize" , "Engage closely with" , "Fight hand-to-hand" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
