Support minor criminal in old age? (6,9)

I believe the answer is:
second childhood
'old age?' is the definition.
(second childhood is a kind of old age)
'support minor criminal' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'support' could be 'second' (eg to second an idea is to support it) and 'second' is located in the answer.
'minor' could be 'child' (synonyms) and 'child' is located in the answer.
'criminal' could be 'hood' (hood is a kind of criminal) and 'hood' is found within the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'in' acts as a link.
