Crossword Genius

Supports people in case of bias (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

braces

'supports' is the definition.
(brace is a kind of support)

'people in case of bias' is the wordplay.
'people' becomes 'race'.
'in' is an insertion indicator.
'case of' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters) (outsides of).
'bias' with its middle removed is 'bs'.
'race' placed within 'bs' is 'BRACES'.

(Other definitions for braces that I've seen before include "Supports for teeth or trousers" , "Stabilises" , "Trouser support" , "Straps used to keep trousers up" , "Supports for men's trousers" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
