Crossword Genius

Surmise about back burner (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

inferno

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'burner' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.

'surmise about back' is the wordplay.
'surmise' becomes 'infer' (I've seen this in another clue).
'about' becomes 'on' (as in a book 'on' a certain topic).
'back' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'on' reversed gives 'no'.
'infer'+'no'='INFERNO'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for inferno that I've seen before include "A raging fire as in hell - ask Dante" , "Huge fire" , "Large uncontrolled fire" , "Huge conflagration" , "Where Satan lives and sinners go" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
