Take off for somewhere in the Isle of Man (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

peel

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'take off' is the definition.
(as in peeling something off)

'somewhere in the isle of man' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'man' could be 'p' (abbreviation for pawn, a chess piece or 'man') and 'p' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'eel' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'for' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for peel that I've seen before include "Outer fruit layer" , "island" , "Remove skin from with blade" , "Young swimmer" , "Citrus skin" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
