Crossword Genius

Take out former pamphlet? (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

extract

'take out' is the definition.
(I know that take out can be written as extract)

'former pamphlet' is the wordplay.
'former' becomes 'ex' (prefix meaning former or onetime).
'pamphlet' becomes 'tract' (synonyms).
'ex'+'tract'='EXTRACT'

(Other definitions for extract that I've seen before include "Draw out by force" , "Pull out - quotation" , "Forcibly draw out" , "Cutting" , "Passage taken from book etc" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
