Crossword Genius

Taking one drink laced with another (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

stealing

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'taking' is the definition.
(stealing is a kind of taking)

'one drink laced with another' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is located in the answer.
'drink' could be 'tea' (tea is a drink) and 'tea' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for stealing that I've seen before include "Illegally removing" , "Theft" , "Robbing" , "Taking illegally" , "Thieving" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
