Tandem ride awaits her, if she is willing (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

daisy

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tandem ride' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'awaits her if she is willing' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'is' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'day' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for daisy that I've seen before include "Old song: '. . . . ., . . . . . give me your answer, do'" , "Plant; girl's name" , "Common wildflower" , "See 1 Across" , "bloomer" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
