Crossword Genius

Tango with admirer, turn and rise up (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

revolt

'rise up' is the definition.
(revolting is a kind of rising up)

'tango with admirer turn' is the wordplay.
'tango' becomes 't' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'admirer' becomes 'lover' (I've seen this before).
'turn' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'lover' in reverse letter order is 'revol'.
't' put after 'revol' is 'REVOLT'.

'and' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for revolt that I've seen before include "Rebel, rise up against" , "Uprising, insurrection" , "Mutiny or disgust" , "Rise up against or disgust" , "Upset" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
