Crossword Genius

Tasted more than enough in empty spread (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sampled

'tasted' is the definition.
('sample' can be a synonym of 'taste')

'more than enough in empty spread' is the wordplay.
'more than enough' becomes 'ample' (I've seen this before).
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'empty' means to remove the middle letters.
'spread' with its centre taken out is 'sd'.
'ample' inserted inside 'sd' is 'SAMPLED'.

(Other definitions for sampled that I've seen before include "tried" , "Tasted" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
