Team of highwaymen, by the way? (8)
I believe the answer is:
roadside
'by the way?' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'team of highwaymen' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'team' could be 'side' (both can mean a sports team) and 'side' is present in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rad' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for roadside that I've seen before include "Bordering on the street" , "Position of pavement artist" , "Edge of the highway" , "where speed-checks may be?" , "Verge" .)
