Crossword Genius

Temptress greeted making comeback around Lima (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

delilah

'temptress' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'greeted making comeback around lima' is the wordplay.
'greeted' becomes 'hailed' (hailing is a kind of greeting).
'making comeback' says the letters should be written backwards.
'around' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'lima' becomes 'L' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'hailed' written backwards gives 'deliah'.
'deliah' enclosing 'l' is 'DELILAH'.

(Other definitions for delilah that I've seen before include "Woman linked to Samson" , "She betrayed Samon to the Philistines" , "Seductive woman" , "Siren" , "tempting girl" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
