Crossword Genius

The bones of philosopher-king in Ireland (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

humeri

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the bones' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'philosopher-king in ireland' is the wordplay.
'philosopher' becomes 'hume' (I have seen 'Scottish philosopher ' mean 'hume' so perhaps 'philosopher' could also mean 'hume').
'king in ireland' becomes 'ri' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'hume'+'ri'='HUMERI'

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for humeri that I've seen before include "Components of arms" , "Upper-arm bones" , "Bones in upper arm from shoulder to elbow" , "Bones form shoulder to elbow" , "Bones from shoulder to elbow, in Latin plural" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
