The dog is more inflexible in its ways (6)
I believe the answer is:
setter
'the dog' is the definition.
(setter is a type of dog)
'more inflexible in its ways' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'inflexible' could be 'set' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'set' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ter' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'is' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for setter that I've seen before include "Street (anag.)" , "Dog trained to point at game" , "who is giving you problems right now?" , "pointer" , "Breed of gun dog" .)
